Jim Hummel, Founder of The Hummel Report
“From Print, to Broadcast, to the Internet: A Reporter’s Journey in Rhode Island Media Over the Past Four Decades”
Jim Hummel has been a reporter in Rhode Island for 40 years across all mediums. He started with The Providence Journal in 1982, before moving to ABC6-TV in 1995, where he won the Edward R. Murrow Award for Investigative Reporting. In 2009 he founded The Hummel Report, an online nonprofit investigative website – and in 2012 created The Rhode Island Spotlight series, running online and on Rhode Island PBS, where he is also the moderator of the station’s weekly public affairs program, A Lively Experiment. Jim is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he majored in journalism and political science.
