Welcome

Welcome opera buffs and those who are just beginning their acquaintance with this exciting art form that combines timeless music, glorious singing, intense acting, interesting librettos, artistic set design and superstar personalities.  Thanks to the amazing technology of HD video shown in select local cinemas, we will take a (virtual) front row seat at live Metropolitan Opera performances and “stand next to” the stars between acts.

We will preview the story line of each opera, meet its composer, and delve into a variety of topics, such as: historical/political setting, major arias, current stars, set design/costumes. After the performance we will share our thoughts about the acting, interpretation, music, costumes, set design and more.

Guest speakers will add an extra dimension to our learning.

By the end of the course we aim to deepen our knowledge and appreciation of this art form and, perhaps, join the millions of dedicated opera fans worldwide.

We will preview the four Met in HD operas scheduled for the fall.   Turandot:  Sat. October 12, Wed. October 16

Manon:  Sat. Oct. 26, Wed. Oct. 30

               Madama Butterfly:  Sat.Nov 9, Wed. Nov.13
